WHAT IS GRAPHIC DESIGN?//PUBLICATIONS

BLOG GROUPS:
GENERAL OBSERVATIONS WITHIN THE THREE CATEGORIES:
5 NEW THINGS WE KNOW:
-as time has gone on annual reports have become more creative
-a lot of white page space in cook books, so you don't put your hands over the instructions 
-high end fashion magazines tend to be minimalist i.e Vogue
-children's book covers are very colourful, vibrant
-graphic novels are very detailed

5 THINGS WE DIDN'T KNOW:
-the extremities of billboard advertising- creative concept and design
-sport magazine use celebrities unrelated to sport to attract a wider audience 
-zines are usually for visual purposes
-how broad genres of books are

5 THINGS TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:
-more research about fan zines
-look more into annual reports
-research a variety of publications going into more depth with content and layout rather than just the front cover
-penguin book covers, changed through out time, iconic design
-target audience for graphic novels
-find out about the grid method, how they work, the most used grid format, why?

5 PROBLEMS:
-couldn't find many examples of creative press
-difficult to collect various examples of annual reports that were specific to one audience, yet they were really creative
-struggled to find something different within cook book design and layout, no variation with book covers
-difficult to find website designs that broke out of the generic structure 
-couldn't find an autobiography that broke the generic mould-all basic design

-target audience 
-budget
-layout
-stock used
-printing process 


what is graphic design for?
branding and identity, product and packaging, retail and promotion.
how to categorise:
genres, content, audience, sectors, function, format
brand -corporate image as a whole, identity logo- visual aspects that form part of an overall brand
